Adolescent Survey

TEENAGERS and ALCOHOL

The ANSWERS

1. (c) If you said both, you are right. A regular one ounce shot of hard liquor and a can of beer have the same amount of alcohol

2. (c) Never is the correct answer. People who drink a lot to fit in, relax, or feel better are at high risk for problems. Even sometimes is risky. How much is a lot? If it is something that is done automatically or is part of your lifestyle it could be too much. There are many ways to fit in, relax, or feel better and have friends other than using alcohol.

3. (c) You must be 21 years old to legally drink beer or any other beverage with alcohol in it.

4. (d) All three are penalties under Hawaii's new Zero Tolerance law for young drivers. Drinking here is defined as any "measurable amount"- greater than .02 Blood Alcohol Content (B.A.C) but less than .08 B.A.C. If your B.A.C. is .08 or above, you will be charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

5. There is no right answer. The more friends you have who use alcohol or other drugs, the higher your risk of drinking. Regardless of what others do, it is important to remember what you want for yourself.

6. (b) Drinking a lot is dangerous, both physically and emotionally, and will always put you in a high risk situation. It is never safe and can be a sickness.

7. This can be a scary question. If your answer is yes, think about how often, how much, and what happens as a result. If it makes you nervous or angry, maybe it is something to think about. If you have questions or concerns about this, you could talk with your school counselor or another adult. You are not alone and help is available.

8. (c) Five out of ten people are killed in traffic accidents in Hawaii due to drinking and driving. This includes people who were not drinking but were victims of drinking drivers)
